Dubai Municipality has strongly asked public not to contact any persons or companies that are not approved by civic body’s pest control section. This was stated by Hisham Abdul Rahman Al-Yahya, head of pest control section at the municipality.
The statement comes following news related to deaths and causalities reportedly by chemicals used for pest killing.
“There are more than 100 companies in Dubai that are duly approved by Dubai Municipality. Still some people tend to hire illegal persons or companies to end their nuisance, but unfortunately usher in havocs,” said Hisham.
He said people should more alert whether the agents they are dealing with are holding cards issued by Municipality.
“If anybody noticed to be selling items for pest killing or contacting you offering pest control services without showing correct documents, immediately inform authorities,” he said.
He further said that people should stop entertaining these illegal pest control agents for saving a few amount of money.
A.K.M. Motahar Hussain, pesticides expert at the municipality said the pest control crew at the civic body is carrying out inspections to find out illegal people and to ensure banned stuffs are not used in households and other buildings.
According to him, Illegal agents sometimes using phosphine gas tablets or EMULSION CONCENTRATE (EC) formulations which are not allowed for domestic pest management purposes. He said EC should not be used at any case for domestic use as the civic body has banned this.
“We have given strict instructions to the approved companies to avoid possible risks while applying chemicals for killing pests. Last month we organized a comprehensive work shop for companies on the advanced technologies and systems to avoid pests with safe methods,” Mr. Motahar explained.
Further to the case of companies he said Dubai municipality is following an advanced method to track and control companies in the field. Public Health Pest Control section has guideline for starting pest control company which is available in the section.
All registered companies are supposed to supply the list of the chemicals to Pest Control Section which they may use. Dubai municipality has stopped more than four companies in recent past for not complying with the requirements set by the authority, he said.
On chemicals that are approved here in the UAE, he said Ministry of Environment and Water is the only authority to register chemicals (pesticides) and they have list of pesticides approved to be used in the country.
